Navegar Foundation and the Center for Astrophyics of Oporto University are pleased to invite all interested in participating in the 5th European Meeting of Small and Portable Planetariums. The conference will be held at Centro Multimeios Espinho, a modern building that includes among other equipments a Planetarium. The second day of the conference, the afternoon session will be held at the Center of Astrophysics building where the Oporto Planetarium is located.
Small and portable planetariums have a huge impact in Astronomy education and science awareness. It is therefore important to discuss the different approaches and methodologies used in transmitting their message for an even greater impact. Discussing and exchanging experiences, addressing modern and innovative forms of interaction with the audience, establishing collaborations, are some of the goals of this conference.
An important aspect to address is the impact the new digital technologies have in these class of planetariums, what changes they bring to traditional approaches, what are their possibilities and challenges. With the arrival of digital systems, small and portable planetariums are in many cases a strong combination. They now have the technical capabilities of their bigger brothers, but being simpler, easier to set-up and operate where the strong contact and interaction between presenter and audience is even reinforced.
This conference is organized having in mind all those people that: - Work in medium/small and portable planetariums. - Want to have a clear understanding of what a modern planetarium is. - Are interested in making the most of the new technologies available.
The goal is that the participants: - Increase their knowledge in this new medium. - Understand the way of extracting the most from these new technologies. - Share and learn with each other experiences. - Understand the processes involved in the use and content creation. - Discuss openly approaches and methodologies for the dome.
This conference is opened to submissions for those that would like to present and share their experiences, work and knowledge in this field.
We look forward to meet you!
